Let's Get Dirty

This was the aftermath of the last 432 party. Anyone who left early probably didn't catch it.

PSYCHE - this was from some tomato fight in Italy. We want you guys to get just as crazy, however please don't bring tomatoes or other such objects. Just liquor and sweat should do the trick........

Things to do before our parties

Our original idea behind the monthly Thursday party was to have something that extended from afterwork until late night. However, every time we attempted this, most people didn't show up until well after 10 which forced us to push back the start time to 9pm (from the original 7).

While this is a good change for many of our party attendees, it has probably left some people with some time to kill between work and the party.

I will attempt to fill that gap by offering up other options for things to do in the local vicinity before you head over to Mings. Of course, one of the best ways to kill time within that timeframe is eat. That being said - my first post in this series will highlight a new restaurant discovery of mine called Maoz.

I'm always on a quest to find NYC's best falafel spot, and after trying Maoz, i'd say its definitely in the running. Apparently this restauraunt is a Dutch chain, with locations in many places, but it just opened its first one in NYC this past Spring on Union Square East between 16th and 17th.

The upsides: I ordered a falafel/hummus sandwich on whole wheat. The falafel and hummus were both above average but they weren't what really made this place. What makes this place really great is the following: 1) they offer an excellent condiment bar where you can load up on olives, seasoned cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, and more, plus choose from a wide variety of sauces. Also, the whole wheat pita was amazing. I felt like i was eating homemade freshly baked bread.

The downsides: There is very little space to eat in the store, so you're basically forced to take it across the street to union Square park (which is fine in this weather). Also, the container they gave me the sandwhich in couldn't hold as many of the free sides as i would have liked to take (which makes sense, because they would go broke).

All in all, its a great place and it's only a few blocks away from Uncle Mings. Plus, it's far better than Chickpea which i feel is highly overrated.

They spelled my name wrong again!

I'm really glad that TimeOut NY always lists our parties, but it's a little annoying that they have now spelled my name wrong twice. This is what they said about our party:

Thursday, 8/30, 9pm:
It will be a long weekend indeed if you start it off tonight at East Village hideaway Uncle Ming’s, where Def Jux’s DJ ESE and 432 Promotions’ DJ Knowmad hit the decks for a night of hip-hop, reggae, disco, soul and classics. For more info, go to myspace.com/432thursdays.

PS - Party this Thursday, 8/30!!!

So you wanna be a DJ?

Cosmo Baker of The Rub posted some scans online of cartoons that originally appeared in "On the Go" magazine back in the 90's. I just had to re-post this one because it hits some of the negative sides of the party/nightlife/dj scene spot on and is basically what we are trying NOT to be.Click the image to zoom in and read - it's well worth it.

Truly a Long Weekend

I just realized yesterday that our "Long Weekend" party will fall on a true long weekend next week - Labor Day Weekend! I'm assuming most everyone gets Monday off of work, so why not extend it just a little longer and take Friday off too.

I live in Crown Heights, Brooklyn so Labor Day weekend is basically the craziest weekend of the year. Even if i didn't want to do something on Septmeber 3rd, this is what it would like out of my front window:

In honor of this, i'll try to step up my sets at Uncle Mings with some extra reggae and soca.

Also, if you go out to the parade, make sure to support the local vendors and buy some food. It's all excellent:

432 Podcast Vol. 2 Re-up

Back when we started these parties at M1-5, I had an idea to have a monthly podcast to go along with the the monthly party. I ended up only putting together two of them before falling off schedule and have yet to pick it back up.

My idea is to eventually have podcasts submitted by any or all of the DJ's that we work with and post them up for everyone to download. This will hopefully be easier now that we have this blog as a space to do so.

In the meantime, here is a re-up of the second podcast i did back in March. I'll have part 3 soon, i swear!

Oh, and here's the 432 logo that my friend Miles made. I used it for Album Artwork in the file.

Friday Night Special Recap - 8/10/07

On August 10th, 2007 we did our first ever Friday night party called "Friday Night Special" at Mixx Lounge. The turnout was big and music was provided by myself and my man OP!.

For anybody that was there, we apologize about some of the discrepancies we had with the management over the specials that we were promised. Even though not everything went as smoothly as we hoped, we still think it turned out to be a pretty damn good night. At least the open vodka bar went off as it was supposed to, despite the long lines to get to the bar.

Here are some pictures of that night (once again, thanks to Erica of going.com):

Long Weekend July Recap - 7/19/07

Due to a booking conflict back in July we had to go slightly off of our normal schedule (the last Thursday of every month) and do our party on the third Thursday. It didn't matter though, because our crowd still came out. I didn't get out of there until 4:30 AM. I want to thank that last group of people that stayed on the dancefloor until the end. Obviously you guys must not have gone to work that Friday.

Here are some pictures from that night (thanks to Erica of Going.com!):

Welcome

Welcome to the newly established blog for 432 Promotions. We'll be posting all sorts of things here relating to our events as well as downloads and writings about music and nightlife.

Be sure to check back frequently!

For those that don't know about us, here is a little history:

432 Promotions was started in December of 2006 with a party that was called 432 Thursdays at M1-5 in Tribeca. This party happened 3 times and featured myself and DJ Kinetic as DJs with the addition of DJ Brainchild for our third installment. For this third installment, we also featured photography projected onto a big screen by N. Corren Conway and REEDFA. For all of the events, we featured a food drive for City Harvest, in which we collected donations of non-perishable goods.

In May of 2007 we moved the party to Uncle Mings in the East Village and renamed it "The Long Weekend." Our first party at Uncle Mings featured DJs Kinetic and ESE, while our second one featured myself and ESE. Both parties have been extremely successful, and we are now on schedule for the last Thursday of every month.

In between our monthly party, we also offer other events. For example, on August 10th of 2007 we did our first ever Friday night party at Mixx Lounge in the West Village. Look out for more events like this in the near future.

And finally, here is the most recent edit of our mission statement:

432 Promotions was born out of the need for more parties in NYC that are worth going to yet still affordable. Places where people can go after work for a drink or dance till late. At 432, we strive to keep the cover free and the drinks cheap, while emphasizing quality vibes and music by handpicking our locations and DJs. At the end of the day it's our solid crowd that makes it such a blast.

Email us at 432thursdays<<at>>gmail.com to be added to our mailing list.
